黑与白，是素描的初心，是绘画的起点。
黑与白，是至色无彩，是无色之色。
黑与白，是视觉的哲学，是艺术的灵魂。
黑与白是对立的，黑白分明，非黑即白，水火不容，势不两立。
黑与白是统一的，计白当黑，知白守黑，相生相克，相辅相成。
黑与白是丰富的，阴阳化生，墨分五色，两仪并立，始为八卦。
黑与白是永恒的，黑白摄影，黑白时装，特立独行，无可取代。
“黑与白”是“抽象2020”这个三部曲式展览的第二集，试图以一个极端纯粹的色彩视角切入当代中国抽象艺术的创作。黑与白是水墨与书法的根本，是中国传统艺术的底色，因此本次展览所选择的大多是深耕中国传统美学的艺术家，他们的实践大多始于书法、水墨等东方式的审美，最终以形而上的方式呈现出当代人的思考。涂绘、书写、拓印、覆盖、镂刻、拼装……各不相同的手法其实体现着殊途同归的态度，他们共同选择了抽象，选择了视觉的形而上。对色彩的各种选择其实折射着不同的价值观，而“黑与白”或许是众多选择中的某种极致，正如《道德经》所言：“大音希声，大象无形。道生一，一生二，二生三，三生万物”。 大道至简，最朴素的形式孕育了最丰富的观念，最单纯的选择预示着最无限的未来。
“抽象2020”的第二集现已开幕，第一集“冷与热”展现的是几何抽象与抒情抽象的风格魅力，而即将到来的第三集“夜与昼”探讨的则是时间这个因素在抽象艺术中的形式表现，敬请期待。

Black-and-White is the root of drawing, the beginning of painting.
Black-and-White is the supreme color without color, the colorless color.
Black-and-White is the philosophy of vision, the soul of art.
They are opposite forces that are distinguished from each other. They are mutually exclusive, like water and fire are at daggers drawn.
They exist in unity. They are treated together harmoniously. One should know the white and nurture the black. They reinforce but offset each other.
They are rich in essence. The dualism of Yin-Yang, of dark-bright, creates everything on earth. The black ink is divided into five colors. The two primary forces coexist and further generate the eight trigrams.
They are as timeless as monochrome photography and fashion design in black and white. Unique and irreplaceable.
Black & White is the second part of the trilogy Abstraction 2020. It investigates the practice of Chinese abstract art through the lens of an ultimate, pure vision of color. Black-and-White is the foundation of ink painting and calligraphy. It serves as the base of Chinese traditional art. Most of the selected artists of the exhibition have taken root in traditional Chinese aesthetics. Their practices mostly start from calligraphy and ink wash painting with oriental aesthetics but end up in the abstract representation of contemporary thinking. Painting, writing, rubbing, covering, engraving, and collage…… Different methods lead to the same intention ultimately. They all make abstraction and metaphysical vision as their choice. The choosing of specific colors reflects diverse thinking. Yet, among the different options, black-and-white is perhaps the most extreme one. As it is said in Tao Te Ching, “The great voice sounds faint, and the great image has no shape. Way gave birth to one, and one gave birth to two. Two gave birth to three, and three gave birth to the ten thousand things.” The great truth is of the most simplicity. The simplest form gives birth to a richness in concepts. The purest choice anticipates an infinite future.
The second episode of trilogy Abstraction 2020 is now unveiled. In the first episode, Cool & Hot revealed the stylish charisma of geometric abstraction as well as expressive abstraction. In the incoming last episode, Night & Day will explore how the element of time plays out in abstract art. Please stay tuned.
